Server Operation Loss /Server Down

In the case the a server appears to be down, the following steps may help to identify where the problem may lie:

  1. Check if domain name can be resolved. Ping the domain name of the server eg. www.serversnack.co.nz. If the name does not resolve, try to ping the IP address of the server. If the ping is successful it may indicate a DNS issue or a problem with host services ie digitalhost - submit a ticket to digitalhost if this is the case.
  2. If neither ping resolve, perform a traceroute to the ip address. If the trace timesout towards the end of the end destination, it may indicate a problem with the datacentre host ie. ICONZ or MaxNet.
  3. Check datacentre host websites for network problems.
  4. In the circumstance that no network problems appear with the datacentre, submit a ticket to digitalhost. https://www.digitalhost.net/support/
  5. If digitalhost appear to have no issues with the servers, a helpdesk ticket should be submitted to the datacentre host.
Any server outages should be submitted with critical status.
